Future Health Leaders (FHL) is an independent organisation founded initially by Health Workforce Australia in 2011. The FHL National Council is made up of students and early career health professionals from across Australia. The ever-expanding membership base is as diverse as it is vast. Health professionals in training have a unique perspective on health and the health system they study and grow in and eventually inherit. Future Health Leaders will see an organisation with truly inter-professional collaboration and as such, be able to look beyond disciplinary borders to address the health challenges within Australia. Future Health Leaders will act as a voice for the next generation of health leaders and provide dynamic dialogue to engage new ideas for health nationwide. Future Health Leaders represents 24 eligible health disciplines to discuss pertinent issues concerning young health professionals and students. These discussions will aim to develop possible solutions to these issues and to establish position statements and discussion papers for wider comment and dissemination. In addition to this, Future Health Leaders will aim to provide recommendations to the departments of health at both the federal and state level on their programs, policies and initiatives. FHL will also establish membership for all emerging health professionals to a network of emerging professionals through their website (http://bit.ly/JoinFHL) so that all early career health professionals and students can be engaged with the processes and outcomes of Future Health Leaders and provide feedback to Future Health Leaders from a broader population.
