Carla has 25 years of experience in public interest advocacy, contributing to city, state, and federal laws related to women’s rights, poverty, public health, and social justice. Before joining Omega, Carla was vice president for public affairs at Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), leading advocacy and communications efforts. Prior to that, Carla worked for the New York City Council, advocating for state and federal policies and funding, and before that was a public defender for the New York Legal Aid Society, the oldest, largest U.S. non-profit providing free legal services. She serves as an advisor to Women Without Borders, Feminist.com, Ctznwell, and Living Room Conversations. Her academic experience includes cofounding the Buffalo Women’s Journal of Law, and teaching Law and Social Justice as an adjunct professor at CUNY Queens College.
