Gary Latham joined Asuragen when the company was founded in March 2006 and is currently the Chief Scientific Officer. In his current position, he oversees assay technology, bioinformatics/biostatistics, diagnostic test development and partnered R&D. In his career, he has directed the development of more than 30 life science or molecular diagnostic kits. His accomplishments include the conception and development of Asuragen’s AmplideX® PCR technology for the fragile X gene and other hard-to-amplify-and-genotype disease targets, and multiple innovations in next-generation sequencing that are commercialized under the QuantideX® brand. He is an author on nearly 50 peer-reviewed publications and an inventor on 14 issued US patents, and has been awarded $13M in research grants from NIH and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). Gary received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University, and was an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oregon’s Institute for Molecular Biology. Previously, he was a senior scientist and R&D section head for Ambion’s protein engineering and sample prep divisions where he developed and launched of a number of commercially successful enzyme tools, RT-PCR products, and RNA isolation technologies.
