The Young Professionals Network (YPN) is a part of the Energy Institute that serves as ‘the hub for tomorrow’s energy leaders’. Our mission is to draw together cross-discipline energy professionals from diverse backgrounds to learn about and discuss key energy issues. We provide a platform from which they can grow and develop whilst building strong multidisciplinary networks, spanning the whole energy sector. The Nigeria YPN was set up in 2016 and is part of a wider network of YPNs worldwide. We organize seminars, panel discussions, and networking events to bring together young professionals from all sectors of the industry. All professionals are welcome to attend our events. In most cases, they are free to attend but have limited availability and places are issued on a first-come-first-served basis. To find out more, visit our webpage and other social media channels.
The Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES) is a leading postgraduate institution established in 2003. It is a collaboration between the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and IFP School, France. We offer a range of industry-relevant and professionally certified postgraduate programs in Petroleum, Energy Studies and Project Development designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the energy sector. Our programs are designed to develop professional engineers with a high level of competency in various fields such as drilling, reservoir engineering, well production, and process, as well as energy studies, with a focus on sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of energy projects. Our multidisciplinary approach equips graduates with the ability to join and lead teams in oil and gas field development and management, as well as emerging energy sectors. Operating under the aegis of the Centre for Oil and Gas Technology, IPS is sponsored by TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited and NNPC Joint Venture. We promote international and national academic collaborations and linkages, partnerships with industry, and collaboration with national and international professional bodies. Our healthy relationship between town and gown makes it possible for the industry and professional bodies to be actively involved in driving the program life-cycle of curriculum development to course delivery/joint project supervision. At IPS, we foster a culture of safety, sustainability, and excellence. We aim to equip our graduates with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the ever-evolving energy industry while promoting sustainable and responsible energy practices.
The NYSC scheme was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war. The unfortunate antecedents in our national history gave impetus to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps by decree No.24 of 22nd May 1973 which stated that the NYSC is being established "with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity".
