Chief Executive Officer | Award-Winning Strategist | Economics | Policy Advocate For Small Business

What does it take to lead a company for 20 years? Courage. Imagination. Self-awareness. Great People. A whole lot of hairspray. Leadership is a privilege and I have had the good fortune of leading people and projects on 3 continents across 14 industries. I’ve seen a lot. I’ve learned a lot. Here's What I Know. . .1: Strategy is a verb.2. Hope is not a strategy.3. You cannot solve irrational problems with rational thinking.4: Build strategy from the bottom up not the top down. 5: Strategy doesn’t die, people kill it. 6: Hire people who can help you solve tomorrow’s problems today. 7: Inertia is insidious. My unconventional approach to strategy won’t be found amidst the pages of some clunky textbook. In fact, my approach often raises the eyebrows of tenured academics and corporate-trained phenoms with initials after their names. My career started in big business before shifting to small business. These opposite experiences provide for a unique perspective into what lasting success really requires. I use this perspective to support the hopes, dreams, wishes and goals of business owners and leaders and to help them see what’s hiding in plain sight.Helping leaders win means bringing imagination, agility, and continuity to their efforts. It also means transforming ideas into objectives and objectives into outcomes. How do I know it’s working? Leaders tell me they “feel” it. Admittedly, my INTJ brain didn’t get it at first. But then it clicked. Hundreds of clients over 20 years have taught me that success is what you experience first, then what you capture on paper. In addition to my roles at YellowWood Group and Management, I serve in national and state-level leadership roles that create platforms to advocate for the small business economy. I previously served as a Braintrust Contributor® for Forbes Small Business, as well as a featured expert for the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. I am proud to be a trusted small business source for the media, including the BBC, NPR, New York Times, Marketplace, Fox, and CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates.
