I am a barrister, with much experience in commercial litigation and arbitration across all areas of commercial law.As well as my experience at the Bar, I can draw on my long career in business, as a business owner, manager, leader and advisor. I have run my own patent research company, worked in venture capital investments (making and managing VC investments in Europe and the US), and I provided IP-related strategy and policy advice to multinational corporations and international organisations. I have also worked for the University of Cambridge, helping the university manage relationships with major corporations. I qualified and practised as a solicitor and ran an Arbitration Centre in Africa.In the course of my career in business, I gained international business experience in China, South Korea, Singapore and South Africa. I also managed software development teams and participated in collaborative R&D projects.I have a strong academic bent, regularly publishing legal articles and contributing to chapters in legal textbooks. For six months in 2015, I was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, in the Faculty of Law, with a research focus on international commercial arbitration. In 2018-2022, I lectured master’s of science students on IP and business at the University of Cambridge. Specialities:- Commercial Litigation and Arbitration: focusing on high value, complex, commercial disputes.- Financial Services, Private Equity and Venture Capital: advising on venture capital investments, start-up financing, M&A transactions and financial services more broadly.- Insurance: acting and advising in insurance and reinsurance backed disputes, as well as in respect of insurance coverage.- Technology: with particular knowledge of software, networks and telecommunications, confidential information, data protection and IP licensing issues.- Intellectual Property: with particular experience of ownership, exploitation and infringement of IP rights across a range of industry sectors, including technology, financial services and insurance. - Data Protection: with deep experience in confidentiality, privacy and personal data issues, and UK data protection laws, with particular focus on artificial intelligence systems and the telecommunications industry.
