Stephen Ure is a 13-season Ocean Lifeguard, currently serving the city of San Diego. During his time as a lifeguard, he has performed over 400 rescues. Born and raised in Orange County, California, Stephen forged an intense work ethic and self-reliance as an Eagle Scout and water polo player during high school. At Orange Coast College, he discovered a keen interest in investments, which led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in finance at San Diego State University. On campus, Stephen was involved in Mortarboard Senior Honors Society and Delta Sigma Pi, where he served as President of the Gamma Epsilon pledge class. After his return from studying at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand, he spent his final semester as a tax intern with White Nelson Diehl Evans in Carlsbad, California. He graduated in May of 2015 with Cum Laude and Business Honors. After graduating, Stephen enjoyed a successful summer lifeguarding season in Laguna Beach and then traveled through northern Europe, making connections in 12 countries and collecting new experiences. Upon returning to California in 2016, Stephen joined San Diego's Lifeguard Services Division as the Regional Guard Academy's top recruit, working a busy schedule at Mission Beach. After this, he traveled back to New Zealand to work a summer with SLSNR, where he was nominated for International Guard of the Year. Stephen's is a permanent lifeguard for the city of San Diego and is currently in training to work seasonally as an Ocean Lifeguard for the County of Los Angeles.
