About
In addition to 25 years teaching Gerontology, Research Methods and Human Development in higher education, I have maintained a steady and varied independent research program building on my first sports psychology "mindfulness" experiments using relaxation and visual imagery training as an undergraduate in 1986. I am comfortable (and published) using different methodologies on wide-ranging topics. I am always eager to take my expertise to "the people" as well as pursue controversial subjects so I identify with the "rogue scholar" approach and enjoy writing for and presenting to the general public. My current primary teaching goal is to mentor undergraduate students pursuing interdisciplinary research on wide-ranging human development topics such as life-long learning, brain health, healthy living & aging, health-related quality of life, the power of the arts & music, and research design itself. My teaching and research aim to serve the larger community in which we live and develop; that is, I prefer solution-oriented community-based action research with practical applications.
