The surgical treatment for the neck and back continues to evolve in two major areas: 1) less invasive or endoscopic spine surgery which is often performed awake and in an outpatient setting; and 2) motion preservation for the cervical and lumbar spine. These operations are now performed at Jackson Neurosurgery ClinicThe treatment for sacroiliac joint disease has become much less invasive and more effective with recent advances in percutaneous techniques. Minimally invasive sacroiliac bone fusion is an important addition to the treatment of patients suffering from low back pain.A major focus of my practice is the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. I perform microvascular decompression, rhizotomy and gamma knife radiosurgery. The addition of a 3T MRI scanner allows us to do cortical mapping and frontal lobe stimulation. Spine surgery continues to grow and evolve toward the ambulatory surgery centers. The incisions are percutaneous and muscle splitting which eliminates dead space. This enables a faster recovery and eliminates the risk of hematoma formation, cerebral spinal fluid leak, and infection.
