Aline Knowles

I joined Snell David Architectsin September 2015 after completing both Part I & Part II at Kingston University. I enjoyed a background in the arts completing a Diploma at Gloucester University exploring printmaking, etching, model making and all things hands-on. I explored work on restoration of listed properties, retrofits and extensions during my Part I experience with a practice in North Yorkshire. I graduated from the MArch course at Kingston University, where I was tutored by Hugh Strange and Cathy Hawley for these two years. I have worked on exciting projects such as community buildings in Alvaro Siza’s Malagueira master plan and designing a nursery for children using the ideas of the Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck. These projects were both situated in UNESCO World Heritage sites in Holland and Portugal which meant that understanding the historical background was very important. I used my expertise in model making, photoshop and printmaking to present my ideas. The areas of architecture that excite me are the environmental and cultural factors surrounding design including community impact and sustainable design. I am confident working and communicating ideas in a team as well as applying a thorough historical and analytical approach to projects. I can manage my workload effectively and keep to tight deadlines. I am able to utilise a range of media and keen to adapt to the company’s requirements and dynamics. I search to work amongst an energetic hard working team of architects and I am ready to embrace tasks with enthusiasm and energy.
