Amelia Watkinson

My lifelong curiosity for and love of languages led me to study Chinese at university, entirely from scratch. Rather than being the astute and business-minded idea that many believed it to be, it was borne of wonder at a collection of cultures so completely different to my own and a desire to leap into the unknown. There was no way to do it other than hurl myself headlong into the task. Since graduating, I have enjoyed using my Chinese in a variety of professional settings, but am currently going it alone as a freelance translator. An avid reader since time immemorial, I am passionate about the written word and the art of getting it right and making it equally wonderful to read in English as it is in Chinese.
