About

I have over 14 years’ experience of delivering frontline health and social care services in the voluntary sector. I also have a comprehensive understanding of how to design and deliver safe personalised services for people, particularly those at vulnerable points in their life. From 2017 to 2020, I led regional service development at Cruse Bereavement Support across the North of England. I was responsible for the strategic development of services, relationship with statutory and voluntary funders, and recruitment and support of staff and volunteers. I was responsible for ensuring Cruse was part of the local community offer and was known and valued by local community groups, GP surgeries and health professionals. Since 2020 I have set up and now manage two national services identified as a result of the changing needs of bereaved people during the Covid-19 pandemic. I took both services from pilot stage, proved the business case, and now both are national flagship services. I have to regularly report to the corporate funders and the National Lottery on progress. Delivering impact has been key to my success and drives my developments. I am naturally curious and enjoy innovating to make services better for people. I then use my knowledge and training in project management to strategically plan services, maximising limited resources to make the most impact. For one of my services, I identified the strategic issue (long waiting lists meant poorer health outcomes) and identified the solution (single online bereavement session). I set up a pilot service to deliver this online with volunteers. The outcome was that over 30% of clients identified no further support needed after the one off session. The outcome for the organisation was that waiting lists reduced by 30% meaning people waited less time for ongoing support and had a better health outcome. This achieved a strategic priority. I oversaw the roll out of this in every region of the country. During my 14 years with Cruse Bereavement Support I have developed a range of leadership skills. Because of my operational experience I enjoy leading by example and set out clear expectations to enable people to thrive. My strengths are managing and motivating people and developing teams. I use informal coaching and mentoring, and more formal tools such as data and KPI’s, appraisals, objective setting and performance management.
