Aniah Francis is an Afro-Trinidadian immigrant who moved to America in 2017 and 2018 and started her undergraduate experience at the University of San Francisco. She is currently a student at the University of San Francisco with a major in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology, Law, and Society. Additionally, she is triple minoring in African American Studies, Legal Studies, and Public Service and Community Engagement. Through her education and experience within programs, she hopes to gain a more developed understanding of the world around her. By doing this she hopes to be a positive change in the world on a social, political, and economic level. Aniah’s interest and work seek to dismantle oppressive structures and create safe spaces for Black girls and youth of color through the creation of policy and humanizing research. This can specifically be seen through her work with Planet Venus Insititute, the African American Policy Forum, the California Department of Education, WestEd, and San Francisco Rising. Outside of school and working with different organizations Aniah enjoys visiting new places, painting, and reading Aniah is currently open to new opportunities, building community with new people, and developing her research skills and advocacy skills.
