Arushi Sen

Armed with a Bachelor’s in Journalism, I started my career in a publishing house and bookstore. I subsequently spent two years in Europe during my Master’s, which introduced me to the development and public policy sectors. Upon completing my studies, I joined the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) as the Media Coordinator and Comms Officer. There, I learned how to translate technical content into reader friendly formats; using the website and social media as effective and strategic tools for outreach; writing proposals for fundraising; and managing media relations. The move to CARE India opened up a new sector. The biggest change was learning how to write content with a marketing twist. I also realized that I really enjoyed writing human interest stories and developing data visualizations on programmatic impact. In 2019, I joined a Spanish NGO called Educo. Working for and with children for their safety, protection, education and wellbeing have given me a new perspective on effective communication. The core skills I have developed thus far include: - Developing & implementing communication, digital and media strategies - Preparing & disseminating messages on social media, blogs, YouTube, etc. - Collating information & developing award winning fundraising proposals - Liaising with mainstream and online media for story ideas, coverage of events, and placing opinion articles, along with writing and disseminating press releases - Developing & updating SEO friendly content for digital properties like websites; and proficiency in using different types of CMS and Google analytics - Writing content for different formats like Annual Reports, newsletters, blogs, op-eds, website, marketing mailers, digital fundraising campaigns, etc. - Editing, proofreading & formatting all types of content and documents - Managing a team - Curating content for communication products like newsletters, policy briefs, brochures, etc. - Event management - Planning & undertaking photography assignments - Scripting, filming and editing short videos using Adobe Premiere Pro. - Computer software knowledge: MS Word, Excel, Power Point; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; WordPress, Canva, GSuite, Prezi.
