Bahman Tohidi

More than 30 years experience in oil and gas industry. Worked as a Production Engineer for four years, before joining Heriot-Watt University in 1991. Areas of expertise/interest are gas hydrates, flow assurance (e.g., wax, asphaltene, salt, emulsion, foam, etc), PVT, phase behaviour and properties of reservoir fluids and H2S/CO2-rich systems, production technology and EOR. More than 30 years of teaching experience covering relevant topics, e.g., Production Technology, Gas Hydrates and Flow Assurance, PVT and Phase Behaviour of Reservoir Fluids. Consultant to various oil and gas companies since 1994. Managing Director of Hydrafact Limited since 2006. More than 400 publications and 10 patents. Some of the patents have been commercialised by Hydrafact, e.g., HydraCHEK (a device for measuring concentrations of salt and inhibitors in produced water and determining hydrate safety margin) and HydraFLASH (a comprehensive software for water-hydrocarbon phase equilibria and hydrates). HydraCHEK has resulted in 100s millions GBP saving and extra income for the industry, as well as reducing/eliminating use/discharge of harmful chemicals into the environment. HydraCHEK played a major role in Heriot-Watt University winning the Queen's Anniversary Prizes in 2016. Bahman has been given the International Lifetime Achievement Award at the 9th International Conference on Gas Hydrates, in Denver, Colorado, June 2017.
