Ben Thornton

An Engineer with over 17 years’ experience in the Test Engineering industry. Breadth of ICE knowledge as well as H2 Awareness and certification for working with Hazardous Voltage. A hands-on engineer with both mechanical and managerial skills specialising in test and development. I enjoy using and developing procedures to methodically manage tasks. Motivated by improving processes to increase efficiency and safety. Problem solving is my passion, I relish the challenge when issues arise, working with a team to find solutions. Founded as an Automotive Technician working at several Tier 1 Motor manufacturers. Given a unique opportunity I diversified into manufacturing by training and working as a robot programmer. A highlight of this time was programming the robots building the Astra front end body in white at Vauxhall Elsmere Port. When I chose to work closer to home I gained a position as a Test Technician at Ricardo Ltd back in 2004. From that moment I have continuously grown as a person and utilzed my ability and desire to expand my knowledge and skills whilst also applying my passion for continuous improvement. I moved to an engineering position before reinvigorating a role as a Test engineer working shift, this was both beneficial to the company as well as my personal circumstances. The role has enabled me to be involved in many aspects of the operations business giving me a great and diverse skill set as well as the ability to deal with unique challenges as they occur. I have been well supported in my role which has allowed me to gain qualifications, enabling me to manage other people, focussing on process, procedures and safety management. My focus is to use my skills to help grow individuals and the company that I work for and to keep the ethos that we can continuously do better with every task and objective we undertake. To be a part of a team that strives for excellence, to learn from new experiences and work hard for the achievement of the company goals and objectives by being dedicated, honest, reliable and trustworthy. I have strong interpersonal skills dealing with both internal teams and external clients. I am comfortable with multi-tasking as well as managing people and priorities as these are all skills that I’m currently utilising. My current role on shift requires me to be self-motivating and have a balanced focus on the needs of the business as well as the client.
