Greatness is making the best (not always biggest) impact you can on other people over the short span of your life here. Greatness is realized on the other side of service. By giving your time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears so that someone else's life can be changed for the better you are making an eternal mark that will never fade. At its core, each business is a service that provides people with what they need to flourish in life. And when a business is built to serve its people rather than have its people slave away for profits, an amazing thing happens. Abundance. I like to think of our approach to business as two fruit trees. The first tree is ripe with fruit. It enjoys well-tilled soil, water, and sunshine and every year the entire community comes and plucks the fruit off its branches. Each person enjoys the delicious fruit and the tree is kept healthy so that it will continue to feed the people coming to it day after day. Now imagine a second tree with branches sagging under all of its fruit. People dig around the tree, prune back the branches, and even sing to the growing fruit pods but they never take a piece for themselves. Someone decided that the fruit was best kept on the tree as opposed to being in the arms of the people. That second tree will ultimately drop mounds of rotting fruit to the ground and everything will be wasted. The first tree will experience a long healthy life, and people will crave, nourish themselves on, and celebrate over that fruit for years to come. My dream is to grow an orchard of those first trees. People with hearts of service, building businesses that are meant to bless others and leave an eternal mark on their entire community. Greatness.
