About

Berislav Bošnjak is an immunologist working since February 2016 as a postdoc researcher in the Reinhold Förster’s Lab at the Institute of Immunology, Hannover Medical School, Germany. The focus of his research is on the molecular mechanisms during the migration of dendritic cells and T-cells using the single cell sequencing and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. In 2015, defended the doctoral dissertation at the University of Vienna, Austria. The thesis was focused on identifying the novel biomarkers for severe allergic asthma and provided a detailed gene expression profile of allergic asthma including the “asthma ignorome”, a subset of genes without previously published research related to the disease. The thesis was part of the research work performed at the Experimental Allergy Lab, Medical University of Vienna, Austria, which Berislav joined in 2009. In 2002, started his career at the drug research department for the pharmaceutical company PLIVA, Inc., in Zagreb, Croatia. Subsequently, in 2006, GlaxoSmithKline, Inc., acquired the research department of PLIVA company. Throughout this period was promoted several times reaching the senior scientist position for deciphering the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of macrolide antibiotics, reverse engineering azithromycin and clarithromycin inhibition of LPS-induced neutrophilia in vivo to detect the cellular (macrophage) and the molecular (transcription factor AP1 and IL-1beta) targets. In addition to the research performed, responsible for defining the models of allergic asthma, which also resulted in the MS degree from Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb, Croatia in 2006 with thesis "Characteristics of airway inflammation after ovalbumin challenge in sensitized mice". The work on allergic asthma was later on expanded in the studies at Medical University of Vienna. In 2002 graduated summa cum laude with a BS degree in molecular biology from the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
