Bernd Luber

As a highly experienced professional with nearly 20 years of applied research in railway systems, my goal is to bring my interdisciplinary knowledge in mechanics, electrical engineering, and biomedical engineering to contribute towards achieving greater efficiency, significant technological progress, and sustainable solutions in railway systems. My approach to achieving these goals involves capturing challenges, creating Big Picture concepts, supporting step-by-step implementation, and sharing generated knowledge with colleagues and universities. Currently, I am focused on digitalization and algorithm development for condition monitoring, diagnosis, and prognosis of vehicle and track component health and ageing states, considering the vehicle-track interaction (dynamics). To achieve this, I combine model-based, simulation-based and data-driven (machine-learning) methods, as well as real measurement data with whole-vehicle simulations, and integrate on-board monitoring systems with track-side measurement systems. I look forward to collaborating with fellow professionals and organizations to achieve these objectives and contribute to sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced railway systems.
