About
Bill joined the Settlement Music School faculty in 2012 after 30+ years of private teaching on the Main Line and in South Jersey, including at the Haddonfield School of Creative and Performing Arts where he started the Percussion program. Bill's areas of focus as both teacher and performer include drum set, percussion, jazz and world music. He also has extensive experience helping students prepare for ensemble auditions (orchestra, jazz ensemble, stage band and marching band) as well as college/graduate school auditions In addition to giving individual lessons, Bill has created the curriculum for and taught a wide range of group classes and workshops at public and private schools, libraries, camps, summer arts programs and the like. Topics include World Rhythms, Jazz Appreciation and Percussion Ensemble. Bill is the creator of a highly engaging interactive workshop, Rhythms of the World, which exposes children and adults to the joys of Percussion. Bill received a BA in Music from Rowan University and a Master's in Music in Percussion Performance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has studied drum set with Jeff Hamilton, Greg Bissonette, Armand Santarelli and percussion/world music with Tony Vacca, Randy Crafton and Ustad Mohammed Lutfi. Bill also has extensive classical experience; he has played with The Haddonfield Symphony, Bridgeton Symphony, The Whitewater Opera Company and was the Principal Percussionist and Timpanist with The Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey. Bill currently plays drum set in several jazz groups in and around Philadelphia including Jazz Volcano.
