I have enjoyed the ups and downs in stock markets for more than 25 years. I find the equity markets very fascinating because it has much more to do with emotions than with numbers. To me it is all about psychology and knowing yourself. My favorite book is “The inner game of tennis”, by W. Timothy Gallwey. It describes the inner battle between Self 1 and Self 2. The essential take away from the book has helped me to put things and events in perspective and to prioritize and simplify. In our society where we always have a wealth of information at our disposal, it can be a challenge to cut through the clutter and see what is really important. We interpret things that have already been interpreted by others. I think we live in the misinformation society. So we have to cut down to the essence and take decisions from that point onwards. I find inspiration in what one of the greatest designers, Hans Wegner, says about how to succeed: “It was rather a continuous process of purification, and for me of simplification, to cut down to the simplest possible elements”.
