Brenda “BJ” James Griffin is a respected and beloved advocate for Georgia children. This native Atlantan draws from her experiences as a wife, mother, grandmother, community leader, political advocate, and former PTA president of Hambrick Elementary, Stone Mountain Middle and High Schools, in creating children stories. BJ continues to give her time and heart to organizations addressing the concerns of children and the working poor. She is especially dedicated to the spiritual, social and intellectual development of the youth in Georgia and at her church, Grace Covenant Ministries. She is a sought after speaker for churches, women’s day, political, sororities, PTA’s, and teen girls programs. In her professional life, she served as Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs and Communications for the Georgia Department of Agriculture. She retired April 1, 2005 after 32 years of faithful service. She graduated from David T. Howard High School; attended Atlanta Junior College; and, Georgia State University. Her past and present memberships includes Crim Open Campus High School Local School Council; American Business Women Association; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.—Kappa Omega Chapter; Atlanta Association of Black Journalists; Atlanta Press Club; Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Advisory Board, Inc., (Past Chairman--10 years); and National Coalition of 100 Black Women. BJ was founding member of The Georgia Child Care Council and on the executive board of Sheltering Arms Child Development and Family Support Board.
