Brenda Southworth

I have been a teacher for the Chillicothe City School District since 1992 and a National Board Certified teacher in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/ Early and Middle Childhood since 2006. I was among the first group of Master Teachers at Chillicothe City Schools in 2009 and have held a Lead Teacher License since 2011. I love teaching and working with children. My goal is to not only help my students to receive the best education possible, so they can become productive, caring members of our sociey, but also to influence their lives in a positve way everyday, just as they do mine. In my current role as my building's Instructional Specialist, I have the honor of being able to work side-by-side with some amazing educators. This multifaceted position involves working closely with teachers and administrators at both building and district levels, as well as still having the opportunity to work directly with students as I co-teach, model standards-based lessons, work with students one on one or with small groups. I also collaborate with other instructional specialists to write assessments, to gather and share resources with my fellow educators, and faciliate professional development opportunities for other teachers. Lastly, I collaborate with teachers to collect, chart, and analyze data during various grade level teacher based team meetings to help guide their classroom instruction and prepare our students to meet their grade level learning expectations.
