Brenden Nagtegaal

I grew up thrilled by those in emergency services, and that never went away. So when I was 18 and not really sure what to do with my life, I took an emergency medical responder course, figuring it might help me out later if I applied into firefighting. I ended up loving the medical side and a few years later took my PCP level at Criti Care EMS Academy. Growing up surrounded by the natural world, I grew to love spending time outdoors and off the beaten path. Combining my interest in medicine and nature, I volunteered for a few years with Winnipeg Search and Rescue. Through this I had the opportunity to attend a joint training exercise with the CAF in northern Manitoba, participate in urban searches for missing persons, as well as ground search and rescue training and winter survival. I currently am working full-time as a primary care paramedic for Shared Health Manitoba and taking general studies at Athabasca University with the goal of getting accepted into an accelerated bachelors of nursing program in the near future. My dream goal is to work internationally, providing medical care in remote areas.
