All progress takes place outside the comfort zone." - Michael John Bobak I was in the Marine Corps for 8 years and when I got out in (2005-2013) my plan was to get into the Police Academy and become a cop. One day, my father gave me another idea, he asked me, “why not try hospitality?” At first, I was hesitant about it but quickly realized that my dad couldn’t have had a better idea for me. He was right because the industry fits my personality, and just like my previous career it fulfilled my need for wanting to help people. When I first got into the industry, I was a bellman and it was like love at first sight. It was fun, exciting and I loved the thrill of never knowing what kind of guests I was going to come in to contact with for the day. I quickly advanced within my career and was able to cross train at the Front Desk and Night Audit and then next thing I knew I was part of the management team. I am happy that my drive for wanting to learn and grow within this industry has not faded even a little and if anything, I am more motivated now than ever. I have a true love for hospitality and I know by continuing to work hard, having the “whatever it takes attitude” and never coming to a point where I think I am done learning- my dreams of my career will come true.
