Brian Kocoloski

I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pittsburgh, on track to graduate during Spring 2017. I am actively pursuing employment opportunities in both academia as well as industy positions focused on performance-centric low-level systems software design. My expertise is in high performance computing systems, with a specific focus on operating systems and virtualization technologies. I focus mostly in the systems software space, where I have experience designing core OS mechanisms which guarantee low overhead and isolated resource access for HPC applications, but at the same time facilitate access to feature-rich runtimes. More generally, I am interested in identifying and addressing challenges that are encountered when designing software for large scale distributed systems. I prefer to work in experimental systems; my work generally involves identifying a problem, designing and implementing a solution, and evaluating it in a real system.
