Brian Ratulowski

I am currently an Engineering Project Manager for the Illinois National Guard and a carman at Metra Railroad. I have been in the military since November 2009 and have gained many valuable skills from my time in service. I have had the honor of running critical missions essential to the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the state of Illinois by leading a team composed of soldiers and civilian medical staff. I have served as the assistant to the Brigade Officer in Charge in construction planning, scheduling, material management, creating standard operating procedures, developing contingency plans, and coordinating deployment of engineer elements with adjacent units. I have also served as the Assistant Section Chief for a battalion signal section organizing and implementing communication training for the battalion in the use of battlefield signal support systems. In addition to my time serving the military, I also have a full-time job with Metra as a carman and I have been with the railroad since 2011. During my time at the railroad, I have had the opportunity to learn various positions within the mechanical department. I have performed inspections on rolling stock IAW the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 238 safety standards. I have done main line derailment, as well as local yard derailment, equipment repairs. I have worked inside repair facilities, IAW guidelines enforced by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), to replace, fabricate and repair equipment in need. I have experience as a lead man inside inspection yards as well as a self-monitored repairman on a remote location basis. I have many different skills that I have acquired throughout my two careers, and I am looking forward to an opportunity that would benefit from my hands on experience combined with my diverse leadership capabilities.
