Naarm.Melbourne-based theatre director, dramaturge, festival director and arts leader, Briony Dunn (she/her) is Literary Manager at Theatre Works, co-Artistic Director of Iron Lung Theatre, a participant in Melbourne Theatre Company’s 2020 Women in Theatre Program, and is on the Australia Council for the Arts peer assessment panel. Briony graduated from NIDA with a Graduate Diploma in Directing and has a Master of Arts in Theatre from UNSW. As part of her current role at Theatre Works she is festival director of the Radical Acts festival for new playwriting, manages the She Writes Program for emerging female-identiyfing and non-binary playwrights, is on the programming team, and curates the New Work Symposium. As director, dramaturge, associate artist or script assessor Briony has worked with many organisations including Griffin Theatre Company, Company B Belvoir, Belvoir Downstairs, Spark & PACT Youth Theatres, NIDA, ATYP, Playwriting Australia and the Melbourne and Sydney International Arts Festivals. Directing credits include Blank by Alice Birch, Electra and Women of Troy by Euripides, Der Hamletmachine by Heiner Muller, dreamalittledreamalittle by Toby Schmitz, La Dispute by Marivaux and ‘night, Mother by Marsha Norman. Her work has been reviewed as "singing with humor and pace", "humorously adult and attractive", "bold", "exceptional", "tight and lively", "strikingly directed", "engrossing", "intelligent", "wise" and "accomplished". Briony was a recipient of the Australia Council for the Arts professional development grant to teach and direct in the Palestinian Territories and Israel. Briony's area of expertise in actor training includes detailed text analysis, and identifying specific blocks that are inhibiting the actor's work. She has developed curriculum designed to identify these blocks.
