About

I started my career in the Navy as a Boiler Technician stationed in Earle Nj. We took care of 3 Foster Wheeler 600 psi boilers and all the auxiliary equipment associated with it. After The Navy I was hired by LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Ut. As a co generation operator. There was one man per shift. We operated 2 Nebraska 250 psi boilers and 2 Worthington 500 kw steam generators. We were also responsible for 3 lithium bromide absorber chillers and various air compressors. After the first few years the job was expanded to include "Translogic" now Swisslog tube systems, and we were also placed in charge of all the hospital chillers/towers and medical air and vacuum systems. After 17 years of working with the generators it was decided to take them down. We were moved to Intermountain Medical Center and the rotating shifts were changed so that we rotated oncall. We were in charge of all of the above equipment at both hospitals and then Riverton Hospital was built and we were placed in charge of that equipment too. The equipment included a wide variety of fire/water tube steam boilers and smaller Hot water recirculation boilers. Intermountain Healthcare recently made many changes and staff was to be centrally located at one facility. So today I am attached to LDS Hospital again. We now have 4 300 hp Miura boilers and 1 100 hp boiler. We are still operating 5 chillers and 2 separate cooling towers consisting of 5 cells. All of the auxiliary equipment is under our care along with the tube system.
