Bryon Dickens

Bryon Dickens has spent his career helping others succeed. He currently serves as the architect and director of the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) mentorship program: Students Connecting with Mentors for Success (SCMS). Bryon began building the program with the inaugural class of young African American male students in the fall of 2015. Providing students with academic support, post-graduation preparation, and character development, the SCMS program has been life changing for the participants. Their average GPAs have remained above 3.0 every semester, and 93% of program graduates have gone on to four-year institutions. Bryon is committed to not only helping these young men become better students, he also works tirelessly to help them become better men.The mentorship prgram is the subject of a documentary, Legacy, highlighting the program's achievements.Due to the program’s impressive data, OCCC expanded the program to include African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students.The SCMS program has been recognized for its excellence with national awards, including: ✅ Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Charles Kennedy Equity Award✅ American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Advancing Diversity Award of Excellence Bryon has personally received:✅ 2019 Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award ✅ 2018 Oklahoma Interfaith Alliance Community Service Award✅ 2018 Communitas Excellence in Community Service AwardBryon is also a certified image consultant and gives presentations in the United States and United Kingdom. As an instructor for the highly acclaimed London Image Institute, he trains image consultants from across the globe in personal and professional branding.Bryon is an author and inventor, having patented the Secure Pocket Square, a menswear accessory that holds a gentleman’s pocket square firmly in his pocket and prevents shifting.Bryon earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a Master of Education degree from University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.
