Carrie Butler

With over 20 years of experience in the public transportation industry, I currently serve as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transit Authority of River City in Louisville, KY. I am a highly motivated, energetic professional with executive and managerial experience in the field of transportation and urban planning. My broad base of experience in the transit industry ranges from the day-to-day management, service planning and scheduling, marketing to long term regional planning, including large capital projects. My comprehensive project experience covers a range of transit and urban design plans for transit agencies, local and state governments. A common theme throughout the projects that I have led is creating plans with vision, grounded in a practical approach that yield successful, executable results. I remain committed to a positive and thoughtful approach to involving the community and gathering feedback from a wide group of stakeholders and decision makers. Previously, I served as the General Manager of Lextran under a management contract with Transdev, where my role included executive management of all functions, service and operations. Having previously worked at the Transit Authority of River City, I managed the Department of Planning and Scheduling. My experience also includes working in the private sector doing consulting and development work at a national engineering firm, TranSystems – with a focus on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning – as well as urban design planning at Dover Kohl and Partners.
