About

Clinical and operational service lead of a team of psychological therapists (IAPT). The service provides assessment and treatment for adults with anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD, phobias, Agrophobia, Panic, Social anxiety and GAD as well as depression. Treatment modalities include CBT, IPT, EMDR, couples therapy, compassion focused therapy, emotion focused therapy (CCC), counselling for depression and CAT. I am CBT, CFT and CCC trained and foundation level trained in CAT I hold a small caseload. I love all aspects of my varied role. Supporting my team to work to their potential and looking at new ways of working and implementing change through innovation. Thinking strategically about a complex system and evaluating a constantly evolving service (with almost endless data). I have worked in the world of IAPT for over 10 years and have been hugely proud to be a part of a revolutionary change to provision of talking therapies. In therapy a therapist will work with you to understand your difficulties and initially do an assessment which will be looking for patterns and themes. Usually there will be a shared formulation of the main difficulties you face, and mapping out of any unhelpful cycles that may be occurring. Using this map you work with your therapist to break the cycles and find new ways of interpreting and reacting to things. Often there will be set tasks (and sometimes new skills) to practice between sessions and the more you do, the more you’ll usually learn. Honesty and openness is key to the process and may be something you’ll really need to push yourself out of your comfort zone on. Ending therapy can be difficult but is also often a really positive part of your journey signifying your progress, a bit like ‘flying the nest’. You should talk about this with your therapist and usually have a plan or therapy summary to help you if things get tough in the future.
