Background: While in high school and part-time in college I worked as an administrative assistant gaining necessary HR and management skills. I began in the healthcare industry while completing my bachelors degree in psychology. I wanted to be ahead of the experience curve we so often face after graduating. I started very hands on as a direct support professional, but I always missed the HR/admin life. After some time I decided to explore HR again and found UBER recruiting. The recruiting tactics were unconventional, but as a natural people person recruiting came easy. My goal now was to turn the, unbeknownst to them, job seekers into workers. I excelled and developed a skill set that aided me in selling the perks of a company and flexibility of a job to 100’s of drivers. While being paid a salary we gained commission from drivers taking their first trip. So follow up was key. Ensuring potential drivers were confident in their technology and had the knowledge to be successful. I later decided to pair my love for social work/healthcare with my recruiting skills. I began recruiting case managers. The field has a very high turn over rate so getting candidates who were passionate about the children and desired longevity with a company was my goal. After a year with that company I wanted to expand my horizons and moved on to a larger company that required more. At my last company I recruited RNs, physicians, case managers, PT, OT, SPT, Medical Supply Companies, etc. I’d visit with the agencies clients to survey their needs and fill positions accordingly. Ensuring each client had the support staff they needed at their disposal, and that the staff were relatable brought me great joy. Social work & Healthcare can seemingly be such a female driven space. I’m proud to say that I was influential in diversifying the market by employing more males. The benefits of having males in roles such as case manager were apparent within a quarter. The companies began to see major behavioral and educational improvements from the male and female clients. Creating change, being innovative and improving systems really motivates me daily.
