Cornelia Ilie is Professor of English Linguistics at Malmö University, Sweden. Her research, which is internationally anchored and largely interdisciplinary, spans four main areas: pragma-semantics, institutional discourse analysis, intercultural rhetoric and argumentation theory. She has published extensively on institutional discourse, ideology and politeness, persuasive strategies in politics & media, parliamentary discourse practices, gender in communities of practice, rhetoric of academic writing. Her more important published books are: Language and Ideology, Vol. 2: Descriptive Cognitive Approaches (Benjamins, 2001); The use of English in institutional and business settings: An intercultural perspective (Peter Lang, 2007); European parliaments under scrutiny: Discourse strategies and interaction practices (Benjamins, 2010); Evolving genres in web-mediated Communication (Peter Lang, 2012); The International Encyclopedia of Language and Social Interaction (3 volumes, Wiley-Blackwell, 2015); Parliament and Parliamentarism: A Comparative History of Disputes about a European Concept (Berghahn Books, 2016); Challenging Leadership Stereotypes through Discourse: Power, management and gender (Springer, 2017); Argumentation across Communities of Practice: Multi-disciplinary perspectives (John Benjamins, 2017); Teaching Business Discourse (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018); Pragmatics and Its Interfaces (John Benjamins, 2018); Questioning and Answering Practices across Contexts and Cultures (John Benjamins, 2021).
