The technology of 3D laser scanning is a proven tool. It was first developed for off-shore oil platform documentation, but more recently widely used throughout the architectural and transportation disciplines. Transportation mobile mapping or Terrestrial Mobile LiDAR Scanning (TMLS) has evolved to a survey-grade acquisition technology for civil engineers and surveyors. My involvement with LiDAR technology since 2003, getting my experience from some of the early developers and leaders in the field, enhanced my survey marketing experience since 1983. This is an exciting time for this technology as the adaption from static to a mobile platform now allows for a safer, faster and more accurate means of data documentation as we rebuild America's infrastructure.
