Like some people I didn’t really know which career path I wanted to take. The only thing I knew at the time was that I have a love for people and I wanted my career choice to help people and make their day. So I took on a few customer service positions. Then I thought, I really would like to assist people to find a place they can call home & so I became a realtor. After awhile, I felt like something was missing. One day, someone introduced me to code and my being exploded with fireworks. It was love at first sight. Coding reignited my creative side & meshed it with my love for logical thinking and problem solving. I consistently found myself in the state of flow while in the midst of coding & designing. It amazed me how one line of code could evolve and animate a website, and that I could even manipulate the functionality giving me endless creative avenues to pursue in making fun, smart & interactive user interface designs. There are still times where my husband has to pull me away from my computer because I don’t know when to stop. At home I learned foundational programming concepts and front-end programming in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript & also got some exposure to jQuery and other JS libraries. I learned the best practices in the full life cycle of the design process using prototyping and other design tools such as PhotoShop, Illustrator and Figma. I also extensively exposed myself to WordPress by building portfolios and personal projects for fun, friends, & family. A few months later, I enrolled into Launchcode, a nonprofit organization that provides education to help individuals launch a career in technology. The curriculum consisted of front-end developing, the JS framework Angular and Java with the focus on problem-solving and testing. In addition, I learned how to effectively use the terminal to access the command line and version control through Github. Today, I am a Freelance Full Stack Designer doing what I love to do! Assisting others by creating beautiful modern & functional websites. The best part about my career is that learning never stops, there is always room for growth and that is why I love my field. I’m always learning new techniques, developing new skills and conquering new challenges every day. I am a passionate coder. What about you?!
