Daniella DiCarlo

I'm a FIT 2020 Photography BFA graduate with a minor in creative writing. I'm a visual artist, writer, and metaphorical dandelion. A dandelion is a metaphor for someone who is resilient but feels they do not belong. My work focuses on expressing this metaphor in conceptual and narrative photographs. I’ve been creating stories ever since I was a kid. I would create worlds in my head and bring them to life using drawings and writing. I would create characters, handmade books, and immerse myself and others into the narratives I created. In my teenage years, this continued with photography. I would create narrative photos with dolls, who I created as stand-in 3d characters for stories I wrote. I would illustrate their feelings, their bad habits, and their relationships in my photos bringing them to life. In my work for the past few years, I have been focusing on the metaphor of dandelion. My newest project, called A Town Where Only I am Missing, is a self-reflection through others and an exploration of my own feelings. I plan to continue working on this project for a long period of time. I’m goal is to have my work published or hung in a gallery. I currently intern at Soho photo gallery and I am in the process of making my exhibition dream a reality. In September we are having an exhibition that I will be apart of. I plan to exhibit my current project.
