About

I studied illustration at Hereford College of Arts & Design in 1997-2000, and went on to study at the Royal College of Art in London from 2001-03. Predominately I make paintings and drawings but like remain nomadic with my choice of mediums, which include video, performance, books and more recently sound / music. I have also worked under the pseudonym Swiftie, making public intervention art throughout Cornwall. Since graduating in 2003 I've exhibited work frequently in both London and Cornwall and internationally at galleries such as West Germany in Berlin with artist David Sherry and Tart in San Francisco. In 2005 my work was purchased by the Wellcome Collection. In 2008 I had a solo show in Penzance, Cornwall at Goldfish Contemporary Arts entitled 'Two Crosses' and also exhibited "The New Landscape" exhibition at the The Royal Cornwall Museum. In July 2009 I was selected to exhibit at the Northern Print Biennale in Newcastle. In 2007 I contributed the artwork for the album Tuned to Love by the British band The Loose Salute and also directed the video for the song The Mutineer, a song taken from the same album. In 2009 I created the artwork for the album 'Goodnight Unknown' by Lou Barlow released through Merge and Domino Records. Alongside this I also directed a video promo called 'Sharing', the first song on the record. In 2012 I contributed an eleven minute video piece for the re-release of the 1987 Sentridoh album Weed Forestin'. The video came with the deluxe package on a wooden USB thumb drive. In 2008 (directly after the solo exhibition Two Crosses) I embarked on creating music & sound for the first time. Upon hearing early demos Cornish film maker Mark Jenkin used four of my songs in his 2011 feature film 'Happy Christmas'. In September 2011 I set up Flawedcore Records, an independent label created to release my own sound and music material. In 2015 I released my debut solo album 'The Baby Blues' My work can be found at darylwaller.com
