David Blankenship, Ph.D LPCC-S

Presently, I am the Coordinator of Education & Addiction Treatment Partnerships at Emerge Counseling Services. Previously, I was teaching graduate courses at the University of Akron in the School of Counseling and have previously been concurrently teaching counseling courses in the counseling department at Youngstown State University. Furthermore, I opened Freedom Source Counseling, LLC a part-time private practice specializing in treating trauma and anxiety to satisfy my two passions of teaching and direct counseling services. I have previously taught undergraduate psychology classes and been teaching graduate-level counseling courses since August 2013 while consistently receiving high marks on student evaluations and requests to continue teaching from program directors. I have over 15 years of clinical experience as a licensed professional counselor. I have been licensed in Tennessee, Alabama and Ohio with experience working in outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient therapy, inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, and a residential treatment center with years of experience in each setting. Also, I have spent years exclusively working with children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and autism spectrum disordered children. One of my highest achieved experiences is being the clinical director of a 52-bed residential treatment center while supervising many staff including seven counselors. My areas of proficiency are in trauma and anxiety with advanced training in clinical hypnosis from the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and additional training in rapid resolution therapy. Currently, I have a publication entitled “Racial disparities in psychotic disorder diagnosis: A review of empirical literature” with the World Journal of Psychiatry, and one solo publication entitled, “Five recommended efficacious treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder: An empirical review” with the Journal of Mental Health Counseling. Additionally, I have three publication manuscripts awaiting finalization for submission.
