About

I am a lecturer with research and teaching interests in comparative politics and international relations. My research specialties include: European politics, comparative legislatures, political parties and party systems and comparative LGBT politics. My current research agenda investigates the role and influence of parliamentary second chambers within the bicameral policymaking process. An overview of the state of the legislative studies sub-field as it pertains to the study of bicameralism in advanced industrial democracies was released as part of a project for Oxford University Press. My research examining when governments are more likely to be defeated in the second chamber has appeared in Legislative Studies Quarterly. Ongoing projects include an examination of when second chambers can cultivate expertise in new issues areas (e.g., European Union policy) and the extent to which this expertise results in greater influence over policy. Additional projects will examine the extent to which second chambers can facilitate or hinder passage of LGBT legislation and the political circumstances under which governments are most likely to introduce legislative benefiting LGBT communities.
