David Allen Flowers is an assistant professor with the Berklee College of Music and a freelance music director/conductor in the Boston area. In addition to maintaining a private studio and teaching with the North End Music and Performing Arts Center, he regularly collaborates with the Arlington Children's Theater. He holds a M.M. In Orchestral Conducting Studies at Penn State University, where he directed the Penn State Campus Orchestra and served as assistant conductor for the Penn State Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras. Prior to his graduate studies, he was a freelance music director in Chicago, working for educational and community level theater companies such as Windy City Performs, Chicago Opera Theater’s Education Department, Beacon Academy, and the ‘etc.’ Music School. He also served as assistant conductor for the Savoyaires, and assistant/acting director for the Ridgeville Band of Evanston. A versatile musician, David has worked on, or composed for, projects in classical music, contemporary music, musical theater, opera, and film score. He builds upon his unique musical journey to develop workshops in musicianship, songwriting, composition, and ensemble skills for young musicians. In addition to his Master’s degree, David holds a B.M. In Music Composition from Illinois Wesleyan University, where he studied with Dr. David Vayo. His conducting teachers include Gerardo Edelstein, Steve Eggleston, and Dr. Lev Ivanov. He has participated in workshops with conductors Dr. Peter Jaffe, Dr. Donald Portnoy, Dr. Kevin Suetterlin, and Dr. Mathias Elmer. He hopes to continue developing his career as a professional conductor while continuing his passion of working with young artists.
