Corporate Development plays an important role in all aspects of a company's acquisitions and investments and new project initiatives. A Corporate Development Specialist is involved in identifying prospective target and market opportunities, performing strategic and quantitative analysis, and, in the case of acquisitions, conducting due diligence, determining appropriate valuation and structure, developing strategy for and conducting negotiations, driving activities to closure, and coordinating with other business units. On a typical project, a Corporate Development Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the transaction and will carry out tasks by managing a cross-functional team involving persons from Business Units and Finance, Legal, Human Resources, MIS, Product Management and Product Development teams. A Corporate Development Specialist is also responsible for business development activities including defining new strategic opportunities and developing partnerships with companies that will increase the company's product reach or create additional revenue opportunities. In today’s business development, companies should constantly be on the look-out for opportunities to strengthen their market position. They have to create value for customers, be innovative and make the right technological decisions. In strengthening the market position, companies should engage in relationships with suppliers, customers and possibly competitors in order to exchange skills, resources, technologies and thereby help each other out.
