As an art therapist working in a community inpatient hospital, I provide care to children receiving treatment due to acute mental health crisis. Children range from ages 7-17 and attend daily music and/ or art therapy as a part of an encompassing program. I have been at this particular setting for three years and have worked on site through out the Covid pandemic and continued to provide services during Hurricane Ida. Primarily, I provide groups in which children create art work focused on increased insight, self expression, and integration of self. Therapeutic sessions also include clinician guided mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, guided meditation, and occasionally Tai Chi.
