I was nine years old and acting in a play with my local drama group. My mum, proud as punch that her child had managed to get a part, was sitting in the audience. Next to her, was my school teacher. You might wonder why my school teacher was there, especially on a Saturday morning. She believed in me and after the performance she told my mum those exact words. Using these words as encouragement has helped me to become the motivated practitioner that I am today. Demonstrating empathy and understanding for all pupils with genuine sensitivity, whilst delivering a commitment to motivating them has ensured that my lessons have met specific learning needs. This has allowed me to identify barriers to learning and respond appropriately. My honest and enthusiastic attitude which is displayed throughout both my management and pedagogy, is used to effect change in the classroom. This has enabled me to form positive professional relationships with all learners. I actively seek and welcome constructive feedback, using this to improve my own teaching practice. I have ensured that I have put a good deal of thought and preparation into my teaching guaranteeing that my lessons are well prepared and resourced. Assessment has been employed within my teaching to inform me of the progress of the learners. I hold a caring manner and positive ethos, and have worked hard to establish my professional identity within the classroom, helping to motivate the class. I hold a developed knowledge and understanding of the methods and theories for effective teaching. My planning has supported the cognitive, emotional, social and physical wellbeing of all learners within the curriculum. I have participated in a variety of CPD events to further my own professional learning throughout my experience, and will continue to do so. This demonstrates my interest in a wide variety of educational issues and my commitment to involve myself fully in the life of the school that I work in.
