Devon Ryder

I am currently a sophomore at Auburn University studying Political Science, with a minor in Philosophy. Politics has recently reared its head as a prominent interest of mine. It began with an AP Government course in high school, which established my love of legal reasoning and legislation. While I have little experience within the political field, I have volunteered for various races within local districts around Auburn through the College Republicans. These races have only made my passion grow. I believe my experience with food service has prepared me well for my time at Auburn, and also a possible future career within the political field. With my experience in leading a team and training new members, I believe I show promise with leading a team towards accomplishing goals efficiently and with purpose. Knowing how to handle stressful situations is also a strength of mine. Working late hours on weekends in the middle of a college town brings with it obvious negatives (rowdy/rude customers, large volumes of customers during football games, etc.); but with these negative experiences I have learned how to manage my emotions while keeping quality and efficiency a top priority. These skills can be applied virtually directly to where I hope to eventually settle as a career choice; a lawyer or government official. Whether it be legal council, legislation creation or some kind of public administration, my efficiency and desire for perfection come foremost and will help me be successful.
