Diana Diaz Castro

Diana is the programme supervisor of the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI), the largest collaboration between the UN and the insurance industry. Endorsed by the UN Secretary-General and insurance industry CEOs, the PSI is a global framework and initiative for the industry to address sustainability issues—as risk managers, insurers and investors—and to build resilient, inclusive and sustainable communities and economies on a healthy planet. Diana co-led the global launch of the world’s largest insurance commitment to net zero emissions, the Net Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA), and supported the establishment of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero. Within the NZIA, Diana has supported the development of pioneering tools and methodologies such as the first global standard to measure insurance-associated emissions and the development of the first ever target-setting protocol. Diana manages initiatives that contribute to achieving the Paris Climate Agreement, UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include the development of the first global sustainability guide for the life & health insurance business, championing nature-positive insurance, developing “Insurance SDGs”, and creating a Sustainable Insurance Facility with V20 finance ministers for the most climate-vulnerable countries. Before joining the PSI, Diana worked as a management consultant and engineer in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
