Dr Elizabeth Houghton

Completed Economic and Social Sciences Research Council funded PhD at the Lancaster University Sociology Department. My doctoral research explored how university students in England engage with their institutions and courses in the context of a marketised higher education field in which they are told they have more ‘choice’ but must weight that choice against a professional lifetime of 'student debt'​. Key achievements include: • Economic and Social Research Council awarded PhD student in Lancaster University’s Sociology Department, ranked first for research intensity by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. • Associate lecturer on Lancaster University’s Media and Cultural Studies programme, ranked first in The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide Subject Rankings 2016. • Former talking head on student and young people’s issues for BBC Radio Five Live, BBC Radio Four and the World Service.
