About

I'm Emmy Victor, an Emmy nominated journalist based in Chicago. I have nearly 9 years of experience reporting for television newscasts. I joined the AccuWeather Network in September 2020 as a National Weather Reporter and Multimedia Journalist. You can find me traveling around the country, reporting on severe weather or climate change. My reports get picked up by dozens of local televisions stations everyday. Prior to AccuWeather, I spent one year as a Special Assignments Anchor for The Hill in Washington, D.C. In my role, I anchored several political and feature news segments published on thehill.com and its other digital platforms. For three years, I was a morning live reporter at WRAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina. During my time in Raleigh, I covered a number of national interest stories, including Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Matthew, the repeal of the controversial bathroom bill widely known as HB-2, Duke and UNC in the NCAA National basketball championships, the toppling of the Silent Sam confederate monument in Chapel Hill and a deadly gas explosion in downtown Durham. I began my career as a reporter at KCCI-TV, an CBS station in Des Moines, Iowa. There, I interviewed presidential candidates leading up to the 2016 Iowa Caucuses. I also received praise by many veteran journalists during my time in Iowa, for keeping calm after a viewer yelled racial slurs at me during a live television broadcast. I have a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Howard University, where I served as an editor of the school newspaper and earned six newsroom internships. I am a proud native of Newark, New Jersey and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. I love to be involved in the community, emcee local events or help interns and students who want to learn more about journalism. I am passionate about multi-platform reporting and have current experience shooting, editing, writing scripts for newscasts and copy for websites.
