After 30 years in Asia, the last 13 heading Asia Investments with Church, I recently relocated to our New York office to take over leadership of the global private equity portfolio. I am honored to be working with an amazing team in both New York and Hong Kong.The Church Pension Fund is one of the most experienced and successful US private pensions. In the Private Equity portfolio we have assembled an impressive roster of General Partners across venture, growth and buy-outs. We are one of a select few LPs to have a permanent Hong Kong office to provide true global coverage. Over the last several years I have overseen a portfolio of top tier managers in Asia across private equity, venture capital, hedge funds and real estate funds. Our Asian investments have significantly outperformed our benchmarks and I am very proud to have overseen significant growth in the Asian portfolio. While in Asia, I was very proud to serve as Chairman of the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association (HKVCA). I remain engaged with the executive committee to help grow the membership and fostered remarkable network among GPs and LPs in the region.Up until now, my career has been mostly focused in Asia and primarily in private equity. I first went to China in 1990 to teach American foreign policy at the prestigious Foreign Affairs University In Beijing and to learn Chinese. From 1993-1995 I spent two incredible years getting my Masters at Columbia University. I joined the Church Pension Fund in 2009 from The Carlyle Group where I was Head of the Asian Leveraged Finance Fund. Prior that I was with JPMorgan for over 12 years as Head of Leveraged Finance for the Asia Pacific region. I was fortunate to be at the genesis of the Asia private equity boom that started in the late 1990s.I joined JPMorgan Chase after getting a Masters Degree at Columbia University School of International Affairs (SIPA) where I studied finance and Chinese.
