Eric Westenkirchner

Eric is a mechanical engineer who specializes in 1D engine simulation and design engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Terre Haute, IN, March 2014). During his time at Rose-Hulman, he focused his studies on courses in the automotive and aerospace fields, including Internal Combustion Engines, Turbomachinery, Vibration Analysis, Introduction to Finite Element Fundamentals, and Combustion. Additionally, he competed in Formula SAE as part of Rose-Hulman's team, Rose Grand Prix Engineering. Eric currently resides in Plymouth, MI and recently joined the Ilmor Engineering, where he is a Trackside Support Engineer for the IndyCar program. Before joining Ilmor, he worked in engineering consulting, where he developed his skills in both CAD and 1D simulation on projects that supported engines ranging from as small as 450cc to as large as 98 liters. Eric has been a member of SAE since 2014. He is fascinated with high-performance vehicles and motorsports. His favorite engine designs include BMW's N54 inline-six, as well as BRM's famous H16. When not in the office, he can often be found riding his motorcycle, working trackside at a test or race, lifting at his local gym, or even experimenting with cooking.
